Below is an image of the Parlor level of a Brooklyn, NY brownstone I recently created as-built drawings of. I’ll discuss the complete project in this blog post.
My As-Built Services
On a weekly basis I create as-built drawings of apartments, brownstones, buildings, houses, townhouses, and commercial spaces. The scope of work for each project varies, and the location varies also.
I generally cover the Tri-State area, which is where most of my work is. But I’m also regularly in the Hamptons, the Hudson Valley, and Connecticut.
When an Interior Designer Called Me
The Park Slope brownstone project I’m featuring this week highlights my as-built services, covering both interior and exterior documentation. I created drawings of the 4,515 sf interior and 2,250 sf exterior (i.e. roof, terraces, yards) for an interior designer. She needed the measured drawings to develop a design concept for the interior and exterior spaces. She would be responsible for space planning and selecting furnishings, fixtures, art, paint colors, and decorative items.
Here is a picture of the rear yard and rear facade of the brownstone. The rear yard was one of the exterior areas I surveyed.
Below is an image of the kitchen of the brownstone. In addition to the kitchen, this brownstone had five bedrooms and five bathrooms, spread over six levels. The six levels included the finished basement, garden, parlor, upper floors, and roof terrace.
The As-Built Drawings I Created

This brownstone project was complex. With six levels, multiple terraces, a roof deck, front and rear yards, and a garden-level family room opening to the bluestone patio, every area needed to be documented. Features like the double-height dining room, private elevator, custom built-in furniture, and fireplaces required careful field measuring. These conditions made accurate as-built drawings critical for the interior designer’s work.
