Rebar shop drawings were needed for the Fleischmann Family Dentistry renovation project in Broomfield, CO, and I was hired by the general contractor to create them.

Pictured above is the Fleischmann Family Dentistry building entrance. To the left of the entrance, an addition will be constructed that includes a slab on grade, grade beams, and drilled piers, all of which were in my scope of work.

From the drawings you can see the foundation walls were actually 12″ grade beams that sat on 12″ drilled piers. The grade beams were reinforced with #5 rebar. The perimeter walls of the building sat on these grade beams, and they were anchored to them by 12″ J-bolts spaced 24″ on center.
The piers had a 10′ minimum depth of embedment into competent bedrock. The minimum pier length was 15′. Typical 20′ pier reinforcement was (3) #5 bars with standard hooks unless noted otherwise. There was a 4″ void form continuous between piers. Sonotubes were used at the tops of the piers to prevent mushrooming. Concrete was not to be placed in more than 3″ of water. If groundwater entered the boring, then underwater concrete placement or casing was required.
The 5″ slab on grade was reinforced with #5 rebar at 12″ on center each way, over 4″ of free-draining gravel on 18″ of compacted non-expansive imported fill.
My scope of work also included an 8″ retaining wall with a 10″ footing, both also reinforced with #5 rebar.
