Many of my projects start with an email from a NYC architect describing a need. Below is one I received for an existing conditions survey project I completed in the Financial District neighborhood of Manhattan, NY.
Also included below are details about the project site and the as-built drawings I created. Here is a pic of an interior wall I needed to create an interior elevation drawing of.

Brian,
Hoping you can help us out with a small survey project in lower Manhattan.
It’s an existing storefront of an amenity space in a residential building. As the client is looking to replace the storefront, a good existing conditions survey is needed to ensure we’re designing correctly to that opening.
Towards that end, we will need both interior and exterior elevations of this wall:
- This storefront exits to a roof terrace, so you’ll have “at grade” access to both sides of the wall.
- The interior elevation will be approximately 29’x10’
- The exterior elevation would be 36’x20’
- We will want to include any light fixtures, electrical outlets, and other electrical devices that might be on the walls currently.

The Project Site
The project site was a residential high-rise located in the center of Manhattan’s Financial District. It was originally constructed as a commercial building, but was later converted into luxury apartments. The building features a variety of modern amenities, including a rooftop terrace, which was the specific location of my work.

After receiving the email I scheduled a date to do the field measuring.
